Welcome to the home of our special event, “Pop Goes The Phoenix”. Here you can find all of the information relating to the event. We’re really excited about hosting this for the second year running and looking forward to being able to crown a listener…pop quiz champion of Phoenix Radio!
However, it’s more than just a pop quiz; if you don’t consider yourself a pop music quizzer but still want to be involved, read on, as there are other aspects to the day too!
WHEN IS THE EVENT HAPPENING?
Well, we thought, let’s do this as the summer draws to a close and September begins! And let’s do it on a Sunday as, hopefully, most people who would like to be involved will be around then. Therefore, it’s all happening on Sunday, the 3rd of September from 12 PM until 10 PM UK time…so, put the date in your diary!
WHAT’S GOING TO BE HAPPENING?
There are three aspects to the day, all of which we’d love you to be involved in, if you fancy?
The primary focus of “Pop Goes The Phoenix” is a pop music quiz, featuring two contestants per hour. Contestants will answer as many pop music questions as they can in 60 seconds.
The contestant with the most points will move on to the next hour and will keep appearing every hour until a new contestant beats their hourly score.
Then, in the final hour of the day, between 9 and 10 PM UK, the two contestants who scored the highest number of pointes during the day will face a final round and the person with the highest score in that round, will become our “Pop Goes The Phoenix” champion.
HOW TO BECOME A POP GOES THE PHOENIX CONTESTANT?
If you’d like to become a contestant, you’ll need to be available for us to contact, by phone, for the 10 hours the event runs, that’s between 12 PM and 10 PM UK time. If you’re chosen, we’ll call you and let you know an hour or so before it’s your turn to play.
At your allotted time, we’ll call you, put you live on air, have a little chat, then, the 60 seconds of questions start! We’ll play a song and, after that, you’ll find out how many points you’ve scored. Towards the end of the hour, we’ll discover together who scored the higher number of points that hour. If it was you, well…you’re back in the next hour for another round!

All entries must be with us by midnight in the UK on Sunday, 27 August.
Maybe…just maybe…you have in your mind a pop question or two that you try to stump your mates with? We’d love to have those questions for inclusion in the day as well. So, if you have a question or two, then send them along to us by email, clearly stating the question and answer.

As with being a contestant, please send us your questions by no later than midnight in the UK on Sunday, 27 August.
During the day we want to make sure the music that surrounds the quiz is what you want to hear. Previously, at this time of year, we’ve compiled a listener countdown but, this year, we’re asking you to simply tell us five of your favourite songs! They don’t have to be in any particular order, just songs that, for whatever reason, you love!
Across the day, we’ll play your favourites and give you a mention when one of your chosen songs gets played.
To send us your five favourites, you can either FILL IN THIS FORM or send them via email, whichever you’re most comfortable with!
